new blow dryer.

Today I am cold. Well, was cold. After I roughed it out in short sleeves upstairs for a while, I decided to come downstairs and blow dry myself with Sara's new blow dryer. I bought it for her yesterday. It's a funny story, actually...

I always use Sara's blow dryer, because I don't like mine. A few days ago, I was using it and my hair got stuck in it. Nothing happened. A couple of days after that, which was yesterday, the blow dryer was making a funny noise that got louder and more intense, until it finally just gave up and started to smoke. I turned it off, put it down, and backed away. The smell was horrible. I decided to go the store and buy a new blow dryer for Sara. When I got home, I put a note on the box that said, "Sara, I think I broke your blow dryer, so I bought you this new one. Don't try to turn your old one on; it might explode... Love, Megan." When Sara came home, she laughed at me for the note. During dinner, she asked how her blow dryer broke. I explained in full detail, and used sound effects, too.

Today I got excited about spending next summer with August. We've been talking about making a list of things to do together when he gets home, so today I made mine. It's long. Here's just a few of the things I'm really excited to do with him:
  • Build a fort and watch a movie inside.
  • Have an Office marathon. (Our favorite TV show!)
  • Jump on the tramp.
  • Go to a concert.
  • Make overs!
  • Tour Downtown Salt Lake City.
  • Play night games.
  • Go to a fair and watch fireworks.
  • Visit grandparents.
  • Go to a dance.
  • Watch submarine races at Utah Lake.

In other news, my parents come home from California tomorrow. I've missed them.

today and yesterday.

Today my dear friend, Erik, is leaving for the MTC. He has been called to serve in the Missouri Independence Mission. I'm so excited and happy for him, but at the same time, it makes me sad to see him go. I don't like change--especially the kind that involves my friends leaving me.

I stayed up late last night, writing him a letter so he would get one on his second day there. As I was writing, I was crying. Really hard. I can't remember the last time I cried that hard. I was thinking about all the many ways he has changed and blessed my life, and also about how much I'm going to miss him and his listening ears and positive attitude. He was, hands down, the first person I could go to if I was having a bad day or just needed someone to talk to, and he was always there for me. What a good friend. He's going to be a great missionary.

After I finished his letter, I checked my email and saw that August had sent me this video, with the words, "I loved this video and thought you would too. :)" As I watched it (not for the first time) my eyes filled with tears as I thought of how amazing this woman really is. I was then that I had a desire to go and read her blog. I read post after post, page after page, and I couldn't stop. As I read, I couldn't help but be excited to be a wife and even more, a mother. (I also really love the pictures she takes, and the way her house is decorated!)

When 3:45 AM rolled around, I forced myself to stop reading and go to sleep. After saying my prayers, I slid into my covers and closed my eyes. I was thankful for my bed. It's so big and comfy, and so much better than the student housing bed I was sleeping in for the past 8 months. My bed is my very favorite place to be in my whole house. It's where I sleep, where I think, where I read, where I pray. It's where I type, where I write and where I go when I want to be alone. Oh, how I love my bed.

Yesterday, on my way home from visiting with my friends, the sky was dark with clouds, and it had just stopped raining. While I was driving on Main Street, I couldn't help but pull over and shoot a few photos--something I've been wanting to do for a while. While I was doing so, a man in a truck yelled and honked at me as he passed by. It just made me laugh.

Today I think I want to cook something. Since I've been home, I'm been really good about baking desserts for my family, but since my mom and dad are in California visiting my sister, I think I want to put my cooking skills to use--that is, if I have any. One thing I like best about being home for the summer is that my mom has more ingredients that I, a lowly college student, had down at school. Excellent.

11:23 pm.

Hi guys! I haven't posted for a few weeks, and I don't know why. I'd say that I've been busy, but that would be a lie. Since school got out at the end of April, I've kind of just been bumming around. I'm working a little, but not enough to keep me busy.
I guess I'll post about what's on my mind. Behold:

Yup! It's August. Surprise! He's still on his mission, and he's still just as wonderful as ever. Every Monday on his P-day, he emails my phone, and we text/email back and forth for an hour. Today we talked about the same ol' stuff, and he also sent me some pictures that he took this morning in Queens. Do you like his tie? I picked it out. :) I guess it's safe to say that he's my boyfriend. I mean, that's what I've been calling him for the last month or so. He has pictures of me on his wall, and I blog about him, so I guess it's official, haha. It's a funny story of how we met, and came to be where we are now, some of which (the funniest part) he doesn't know about yet. But that's for another post. I just wanted to announce that yes, I am dating (or maybe "waiting for" is a better way to put it) my best friend.

meet dad.

This is my dad.

He normally has both of his front teeth in tact. He will be 51 next month, and he's my favorite dad in the whole world! This is why:
  • While on a family vacation to Disneyworld, a parking assistant pointed us to a far parking lot, but my dad decided to park in an empty lot that was closer to the entrance. When told my the parking assistant that he couldn't park there, my dad said, "No, it's okay. I think I want to park right here, thanks."

  • When all my siblings were living out home, an angry dad burst out of his office and started yelling at everyone because his checkbook was gone. A while later, we had found his checkbook in his shirt pocket.

  • After giving my check for rent to my landlord, she emailed me saying that I had insufficient funds, which was a $25 fee. My dad emailed her, and pointed out three very good reasons as to why she was wrong, and at the end, wrote, "My initial guess is that a mistake was made at your office or at your bank. Should this be the case, our charge to you for time spent by us will be $25.00." The mistake was hers.

  • While exiting a parking garage one night, my dad noticed that the exit was blocked off with traffic cones. After driving around and finding no other exit, my dad ran over the cones and exited the garage--right in front of the parking assistant.

  • At dinner one night, my dad got mad at one of my little sister's for spilling the gravy, and asked her to go get a gravy boat to put the gravy in. After the gravy was poured into the gravy boat, my dad spilled it. No one would've noticed if I didn't get mad at him.

  • The other night, after finding out that my youngest sister had kissed the guy she had over, my dad stood right by them when they said their goodbyes just to make it awkward.

  • My dad closes his mouth when he burps, then blows it out, usually in someone's face.

I freaking love my dad.

where i get my inspiration.

I was sitting here in my room, pondering my life, and thinking about things that have been on my mind. It was then that I found out that I get some of my inspiration from the movie Hot Rod. I don't think I've been more happy.

general conference.

Each General Conference, my family gets together and makes apple dumplings--the kind my grandma Deenie used to make. It's a tradition. Before making these well beloved apple dumplings (which my family likes to call "apple dumps"), we split up into different teams, which usually only consist of a single person, and take on the responsibilities of that team. For example: Team Apple Peeler peels the apples, Team Cinnamon puts the cinnamon into the dumplings, and so forth.
Sometimes we make up ridiculous team names. A few Conferences ago, I kept going downstairs, so Matt make me Team Runaway. Well, yesterday during Conference, Matt made himself Team Baster, whose responsibilities consisted of dipping the apple slices into the cinnamon, and feeding them to the rest of us, and also filling a turkey baster (hence the name Baster) up with water, and squirting it into everyone's mouths for a refreshing drink. He even astounded us with his excellent service when he asked, "Would you like small, medium, or large?"
At the end of the apple dumpling making, we found out that Matt was a Master Baster.
Hey look! Cute baby:
